In a bid to enforce the suspension of Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Police has ejected all the staff and sealed his office.
Justice Onnoghen is embroiled in an asset declaration controversy and has been charged before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. However, his lawyers have obtained injunctions restraining the CT from proceeding with the case. On Friday, the FG suspended him from office and appointed an Acting CJN, Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed.
The case has attracted reactions from Nigerians and the international community.
When TheCable contacted Awusam Bassey, media aide to Onnoghen, he confirmed the Police action. “It’s true,” Bassey said.
The National Judicial Council is currently sitting to take a position on the matter.
