The Nigeria social media scene is never dull, thanks to a country whose politicians are adept at play-acting and over-dramatization of even trifles in their bid to get away with their self- centered schemes. Since Thursday, Twitter has been abuzz with news of Sen. Dino Melaye’s alleged kidnap and subsequent emergence ‘the wilderness’ after he tweeted his ‘release’.
Most Nigerians rubbished the ‘kidnap’ as another drama by the Sen. who has become known for either releasing derogatory songs or acting out scenes of escape from Police (for which he is currently undergoing trial) or one disagreement in the National Assembly or the other.
Sen. Dino was once involved in a spat with fellow Sen. Oluremi Tinubu in which he allegedly told her he could ‘impregnate’ her if she hadn’t gone into menopause. He is also remembered for his physical brawl in the House of Representatives when as a member in the 6th Assembly, he had his clothes torn on the floor of the House.
Yesterday Sen. Ben Bruce (PDP Bayelsa East) announced that Sen. Dino Melaye had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on his way to a court in Lokoja where he is standing trial on gun-running charges.
Reacting to the ‘kidnap’ and purported release, Twitter reactions were humorously unkind to the Senator.
Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) tweeted: “How convenient to get kidnapped just on your to a court hearing you have previously attempted to shun or dodge? Well done o, Oga @dino_melaye. May God keep you safe for us. And especially for Lady Justice!”
Favour Onyeoziri (@Rouvafe) asked:
“Thur, July 26: Dino Melaye kidnaps himself
Fri, July 27: Dino Melaye releases himself.
Are you not entertained?”
There were several responses ranging from the hilarious to the laconic.
OCHO-UDO 1 (@chinedubekee001) tweeted: “He wasn’t kidnapped, he went into thy wilderness to pray for another vision of movies its so sad he couldn’t stay for 40 days.”
Abdul007 (@Adeiza007) replied laconically: “Next scene please.”
ITS GODSTIME (@its_godstime) asked: “Which episode are we now sef… I have lost count 😂😂.”
Wale Adetona (@iSlimfit) had a name for it: “Dino Melaye was ‘kidnapped’ and his brother called Ben Bruce instead of Police. Poorly scripted Political Movie… Call it Pollywood.”
Activist Deji Adeyanju (@adeyanjudeji) harped on integrity: “There’s nothing as important as having integrity in this life. Dino Melaye was abducted earlier today but because he has a history of dishonesty, people are saying may be he organized his own abduction.
Na wa ooo”
Some news media also carried the news of the Senator’s re-emergence on their Twitter platforms:

Meanwhile, Sahara Reporters (@saharareporters) claims the Senator was not kidnapped at all but simply absconded to avoid attending his trial. The online news medium tweeted: “FLASH: Senator Dino Melaye @dino_melaye not kidnapped, he spoke to relatives and some Senators assuring them he’s hiding in the “bush” to avoid being charged to court and that he will reappear disheveled in coming days.”
